HeForShe - Blog 4
This week I am sharing one of my favorite charities/campaigns. Although there are many good ones I wanted to focus on something more specific, which is why I chose HeForShe. HeForShe is known for being a campaign that strives to create equality among men and women by having males by "agents for change". On HeForShe's website, anyone can pledge and be committed to help end inequality as much as possible. The website also has a world map that shows different levels of male pledges in each country.
However, I'd argue that HeForShe is also a charity since they accept donations through their website. The site claims: "Donations support the United Nations global entity for gender equality". These donations.
Most people probably recognize HeForShe through Emma Watson's role in media coverage for the campaign. I was surprised to read that some criticism involved with HeForShe has to do with Emma Watson not having experienced inequality due to her being "privileged". (I don't feel that Emma's opportunities has to prevent her from caring about other women and their inequality). Another criticism is that people who are non-binary do not fit into the campaign.
Overall, I believe that there are many great charities and causes to feel passionate about and donate to. Personally, I have not dealt with a lot of inequality in my life so far but since I will pursue a profession in the business industry, the glass ceiling is definitely a concern for me which is why seeing a campaign like HeForShe is something I admire. Lastly, I also like HeForShe because it is refreshing to see world change happen through other countries and watch how it affects the US.

I love the HeForShe campaign! When I heard about Emma Watson advocating for it I was so excited! I think this is a real problem in our world right now and it is important for people to pay attention and learn about this campaign and the problems others face.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy this is something you value and are aware of. It is an issue in our world today and something that we will all experience to some degree in our life. It is so great to see organizations like this helping bring awareness and change to out world.
ReplyDeleteI am so surprised I have never seen this but it is incredible. I watched Emma Watson's speech to the United Nations and felt empowered by her words and actions. I remember being afraid to call myself a feminist because I didn't want people to believe the "bad reputation" that went along with it. I am proud to say I am a feminist, and I plan on sharing this with my guy friends!
ReplyDeleteI love Emma Watson and I think she is a great spokesperson for this charity. HeForShe is a really great campaign that everyone can get behind, no matter where you are in your life.
ReplyDeleteI love this campaign too! Their social media presence is fantastic, as is the work they do for their cause.
ReplyDeleteHeforShe sounds like an amazing organization. I have actually never heard of it before, but inequality is something that is so important, especially in the workplace. Men should not be better compensated than women, and higher positions should be given equally. Great post and awesome charity.
