12 Things You've Probably Dealt With If You Are Fair - Blog 6

These are things that I have personally dealt with. I hope it gives you a good laugh!

1. Applying too much bronzer
The first struggle is trying to decide if even attempting with bronzer is a good idea. And if you are the person who chose to try it out, then applying too much has probably been an issue at least once (especially if the bronzer is too warm!).

2. BLENDING
Blending is something you should be doing whenever wearing makeup. But especially when 90% of the makeup up products you are probably using aren't meant for your fair skin tone, it is SO important to blend. I've definitely experienced this more than once.

3. Trying to decide if you want your eyeshadow to compliment your skin tone (and hair) or your eye color
I don't know about you but I LOVE warm colors on my eyes for two reasons: they look great on blue eyes and they make you look awake and healthy. However, with fair skin tones cooler tones can actually look better. Since the warmth in the warm eyeshadows is not reemphasized in your skin tone, it does not look at healthy or natural. Since fair skin tones typically have cool undertones, cool eyeshadows tend to look better but can make you look kind of dead. SO either compliment you eye color and look extremely ghostly or compliment your skin tone and look dead. (:

4. The "face mask"
The face mask is when you wear a foundation shade that is too dark for your skin tone and creates the appearance of a mask because because of the contrast between your face and your neck. Remember what I said earlier about blending? Yeah, that will definitely help with the face mask issue.

5. People will make you aware that being tan is SO much better than being fair
So maybe this is a bit controversial but I have had plenty experiences with people making passive-aggressive remarks about how being tan is sooo much better than being fair. Like sometimes to the point they purposely make you feel inferior to them and put you down to make themselves feel better about themselves for whatever reason. Okay. If you want to feel superior to me because you have a flawless tan, then so be it.

6. Where are you from/why are you so fair?
This is something I get asked so often...Either people ask "Why are you so white/pale/fair?" or "Where are you from? You are so white." or "Where are your parents from? You are so white."
All these are variations of questions that I have been asked. I mean, I guess these are all factors when considering one's skin tone. My mom is from France (many people have fair skin tones here) and I was raised in Seattle (little sun).

7. That 1% chance your foundation is TOO light
Ever done online makeup shopping? For a new foundation that you don't know your shade in? Or just buying a drugstore foundation and not being able to test the shade? Then this has probably happened to you before. And luckily (lol) since you are already so fair, wearing an even lighter shade can make you look sick!

8. Wearing clothing that shows your legs
Whenever I wear dresses and shorts I always get comments about how fair my legs (especially my legs) are. And it's not like I'm going to stop wearing dresses and shorts (or anything else that shows my legs). So you just gotta get used to it I guess!

9. When people wonder why you are always reapplying sunscreen
Being very fair means you probably get sunburned a lot faster than other people do, or at the very least reapply sunscreen more often. Fair skin tones don't absorb sun the way olive skin tones do so instead of getting a tan, being fair means getting sunburned and it not fading to a tan.

10. When self-tanning can go terribly wrong
Even if you don't have a fair skin tone, self-tanning being a challenge is something a lot of people face who don't want to use tanning beds or sun tanning. However, as much as it is better for you to self-tan since cancer is not a concern, it can be very VERY difficult to apply. Imagine uneven application, streaks, discolored hands, and if it doesn't have an olive undertone.

11. Lighting being either your best friend or worst enemy
Lighting can obviously be an issue for anyone. And I don't know about you but I actually prefer lighting with a slightly yellow undertone over other types of lighting because it makes you look tanner! Most people would probably go for lighting that is more white so that their natural features don't get changed. And if not the lighting, then the filter probably has yellow tones in it!

12. Gym class in middle school
This one especially probably won't apply to as many people who are fair but for me, middle school gym class is when I first noticed how fair I was compared to other classmates. This is definitely the time I started becoming self-conscious about being so fair!

I hope you enjoyed!
